Why Pets Need Annual or Semi-Annual Exams
Wellness exams are vital because they give us the chance to evaluate your pet from nose to tail and check for potential health problems. Often, veterinarians will discover several issues during the exam that the owner didn’t notice. This is because dogs and cats can be masters of hiding pain and illness and may not show signs of a problem until their condition has worsened.
We also recommend regular checkups so we can answer your questions, ask questions of our own, make treatment recommendations, and maintain a consistent health profile for your pet. Additionally, there are three distinct age categories for pets: the puppy/kitten stage, the adult stage, and the senior stage. Each life stage brings changes for your pet, including different nutritional requirements and lab work. Together, we need to make sure your pet is receiving proper care for their age group for optimal health and quality of life.
Cat & Dog Vaccinations
We provide tailored vaccination plans for every pet, ensuring the best coverage without over-vaccinating. Our recommended vaccines for dogs and cats include:
Dogs
- Rabies
- Distemper parvo (DA2PP)
- Leptospirosis
- Bordetella
- Canine influenza (optional)
Cats
- Rabies
- FVRCP
- FeLV
We offer highly purified ½ mL volumes, so vaccines are easier to administer and for pets to receive to support a Fear Free® experience. This is half the typical fluid volume and less protein/debris that could cause a reaction.
Wellness Services & Lab Work
- We partner with Idexx reference labs to provide comprehensive annual and bi-annual lab work* for pets based on age. This includes:
- 1-6 years of age: Junior annual lab work
- 7 years of age and up: Senior bi-annual lab work
*Exam fee included with packaged discounted lab work.
Wellness lab tests we offer include: Complete blood count, chemistry, thyroid, urinalysis, heartworm, and intestinal parasite/fecal screening.
Parasite Prevention
Dogs and cats are both vulnerable to parasites. We recommend year-round heartworm, flea, and tick protection, though ticks are not as prevalent in our region. Heartworm disease is common and can be fatal. We also see many cases of giardia, as Tucson and Phoenix are hotbeds for this intestinal parasite. Routine parasite screenings and continuous prevention can keep your pet protected from parasites and parasite-transmitted diseases.
Dental Care
Dental exams, teeth cleaning procedures, and routine at-home care are ideal for maintaining a clean, healthy mouth for your pet and preventing dental disease. We can show you how to brush your pet’s teeth and use other quality products such as oral wipes and dental chews to maximize your pet’s oral hygiene and health.
Microchipping
A microchip is permanent identification for your pet that can trace them directly back to you if they get lost and taken to another hospital or shelter. Cats and dogs alike should be microchipped for insurance, and we can chip your pet at any time you prefer – during their wellness visit, while they’re under anesthesia for a dental or surgery, or while they’re having their nails trimmed.
